Many times when I am in my studio I am filled with doubt. I am not a trained artist. My art is different. People won’t like what I create. Hearing these inner messages and moving on is part of the process. Beginning to create art is a step out in faith into the unknown, yet to be discovered. Once I step out and begin, the path opens mysteriously. But it doesn’t mean that the negative voices don’t return. When they do, I take a break. I move away from that particular piece. I may work on another piece of art that is less taxing, I may go outside for a break or just listen to a piece of music. I don’t return to that piece of art until I feel ready and/or refreshed. It is part of the process. Creating art takes daring. Over and over I have to let go of how it will look. I surrender once again to what needs to emerge.
“The thing is to allow ourselves to become a vessel for a work of art to come through and all that work to guide our hands. Once we do, we assenting to a sacred adventure.” - cac.org
