When I was a little girl growing up in a family which was dealing with a catastrophic illness, I had to find ways to survive emotionally. I lived on the edge of a cow pasture on the edge of miles of woods. We were allowed to play and explore in the woods for hours. It was there that I found solace. It was there that I also was drawn into creativity. I made up stories about various characters who resided there in my imagination. Who knew that nature could open a door in my mind and heart where I could create. The Great Creator, after all, had given life to the huge magical tree in the clearing, the tiny water bugs that skated across the surface of the water and the fascinating tadpoles and frogs that inhabited the clear, rippling waters of the pond.
Not only did I discover that creativity was a huge gift and active source that I could tap into. I also found that through the unlocking of this gift in this sacred place, I could find peace, joy and healing.
If you find yourself in a place of despair, loss or unyielding stress there is relief. These are a few things that work for me:
calming. You can also put quiet music on while coloring.
